An Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with Peter Frewer

An Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with Peter Frewer.
Saturday 29th January 2022.

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (including students in these disciplines) who are interested in learning about how CBT can be applied in a therapeutic setting.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on the cognitive model of psychopathology, which hypothesises that people’s emotions, body responses, and behaviours are influenced by their perception of events (Beck, 1964).

CBT is not a one fits all approach but rather an approach that seeks to find the patient’s needs and works to meet their individual needs. We will take a brief look at how we can meet those needs in the course content.

CBT Basic Principles:  —

  • CBT is based on an ever-evolving formulation of the patient and their problems in cognitive terms.
  • CBT requires a good client-therapist relationship.                                                                                     —
  • CBT emphasises collaboration and active participation.
  • CBT is goal-oriented and problem-focused.                                                                                                 —
  • CBT initially emphasises the present.
