Rebozo for an Easier Birth workshop with Sophie Messager

Rebozo Techniques for an Easier Birth Workshop

Background
🧵 Rebozo techniques originate from traditional Mexican midwifery practices. These simple yet powerful methods use a woven scarf to provide comfort, facilitate optimal fetal positioning, and support labour progress.
🌍 While most associated with Mexican traditions, similar techniques using fabric exist across many cultures worldwide as ways to support women during labour and birth.
👨‍⚕️ The rebozo techniques I teach blend traditional wisdom with modern biomechanical understanding, developed in collaboration with Cambridge osteopath Teddy Brookes.

🤰 This workshop introduces a comprehensive set of over 20 techniques including hip rocking, belly sifting, and shaking the apples that can transform challenging labours and help women avoid unnecessary interventions.

What Rebozo Techniques Can Do
🧵 Rebozo techniques offer a non-pharmacological approach to comfort and pain relief during labour.
🪐 They help optimise fetal positioning through gentle movement that encourages babies to find the best position for birth.
🏆 Research shows these techniques can reduce pain, decrease anxiety, potentially shorten labour, and improve maternal satisfaction.
🤱 Having supported hundreds of births over ten years, I’ve witnessed these simple techniques transform challenging labours, especially with malpositioned babies. The techniques provide not just physical support but create a space where women can connect with their innate birthing wisdom.
✨ They are valuable tools for birth professionals seeking effective, non-invasive methods to support physiological birth.

🤞 I am offering a rare chance to learn these techniques in person with me near Cambridge in July.

About Your Instructor
I worked as a birth doula for ten years and have been facilitating workshops for birth professionals for over 15 years. Prior to my birth work, I earned a PhD in Physiology of Reproduction and spent 20 years as a biology research scientist, allowing me to teach a unique blend of scientific, traditional, and practical knowledge.
My approach combines evidence-based information with real birth stories that illustrate how these techniques have transformed challenging labours into empowering experiences.
What Makes This Workshop Special?
I offer a unique blend of scientific understanding and traditional wisdom. I’ve supported hundreds of births using these techniques and witnessed their remarkable effectiveness, particularly with malpositioned babies that might otherwise lead to lengthy labours and interventions.
The workshop balances theory with extensive hands-on practice, ensuring you leave confident in applying these techniques in birth settings immediately.

Here’s some example of what people have said about Sophie’s rebozo training:
  • I completed Sophie’s rebozo workshop recently and cannot recommend it enough. It was easy to follow, had great demonstration videos and was full of useful information. The course explains at each stage of pregnancy, the best use of the rebozo. Sophie talks you through each move and demonstrates it so it is very easy to replicate. I have been looking for a rebozo course for a long time and was so happy I found this one.  Laura Carr, midwife
  • I’m really impressed with the delivery and quality of the course – very easy to understand and a pleasure to watch.  Jo Saville, Yoga teacher and doula
  • I have just completed the Rebozo course, it was really interesting.  I can’t believe that something so simple can be so effective! Being a Labour Ward Midwife, I was most interested in how I would be able to use Rebozo to help women who are in active labour, and I am certain that your demonstration has made this easy for me to grasp. I have really enjoyed it and cant wait to be able to use in with the women I am looking after. Ruth Taylor, midwife.
